Independent Person for Secure Accommodation Reviews
Since 2003 RRC has successfully provided Independent Persons to take part in the review of children and young people held in Secure Accommodation under Regulation 15 of the Children (Secure Accommodation) Regulations 1991.
RRC is keen to provide the ultimate ‘Independent’ element in each appointment made thus does not employ anyone but rather maintains a network of fully qualified Independent People ready and prepared to take part in the review of children and young people held in secure accommodation. RRC provides all Independent People appointed with a comprehensive range of support services, training, guidance and advice to enable them to undertake their professional roles.
The Secure Accommodation Review has a clear remit to assess the criteria for a young person remaining in Secure Accommodation. To facilitate this process, RRC has clear written good practice guidelines that take account of the needs and rights of the child/young person which is always the focal point of the Independent Person’s appointment. The good practice guidance issued to each Independent Person focuses very clearly on their responsibility to the child/young person in ensuring his/her welfare and best interest are of paramount consideration.
